The banking sector in Vietnam is undergoing significant transformation driven by rapid advancements in digital technology. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficiency of Vietnamese commercial joint stock banks in 2022, utilizing a three-stage Network Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) framework to analyze distinct operational stages. Furthermore, the study investigates the relationship between Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adoption and bank efficiency using Censored Quantile Regression analysis, allowing for a nuanced understanding of the impact across different quantiles of the efficiency distribution. The findings reveal that leading banks such as SGB, VCB, and BID have effectively leveraged digital transformation to achieve high efficiency, while others like MSB, PVB, and SHB lag behind, indicating a need for improved digital strategies. The study highlights the varied impacts of different ICT components, with IT Human Resources and Internal IT Applications generally enhancing service and profitability efficiency, whereas IT Infrastructure and Internet Banking show mixed results. These insights emphasize the importance of tailored digital strategies to maximize efficiency gains and financial performance.
